One day Patek Philippe might run out of ways to improve, reinvent or reimagine mechanical movements, but it hasn’t happened yet. Every year the illustrious Geneva brand introduces some new evidence of horological statecraft that takes watchmaking to another level. This year, it figured out how to create a World Time watch that has a date display synchronized with local time (normally the date is linked to home time, and if you want to change that, you have set the watch as if local time were home time). When the two stars turn clockwise together (which should imply simultaneously a forward and a backward movement of the date hand) the differential allows this hand to remain stationary.”

The new movement, the automatic caliber 240 HU C, indicates the date on the periphery of the dial by means of a center hand that is made of transparent glass (to keep the dial uncluttered), with a red tip pointing to the date.

The Ellipse, first introduced in 1968, is one of the many shaped AAA online replica watches that emerged as a new genre during the late sixties and early ’70s. It is known for its distinctive chain bracelets, and this year Patek revived the tradition but unveiling a new, patented chain-style bracelet in rose gold that follows the contours of the wrist.
Just to give you an idea of the company’s attention to detail and quest for perfection: this new bracelet was 15 years in development. The intricate links are machined, but assembled and finished completely by hand by expert chain makers in a style that is woven in a braid-like pattern. The dial is ebony-black sunburst with slender applied hour markers and hands, all in rose gold. With its caliber 240 ultra-thin automatic movement, the new Ellipse also has the distinction of being the slimmest cheap super clone watches in the Patek Philippe regular collection. It is priced at $60,097.
